SCIT ISR Summit 2019

SCIT ISR Committee (Symbiosis Centre for Information Technology, Institutional Social Responsibility) hosted the Institutional Social Responsibility Seminar 2019 on the theme “Reimagining Ecosystem Sustainability: Leaving No One Behind!" on 14th December, 2019 at Symbiosis InfoTech Campus, Hinjewadi Pune.

The theme, Reimagining Ecosystem Sustainability: Leaving No One Behind! aims in discussing the threats of serious or irreversible environmental damage and measures to prevent environmental degradation. The Seminar was aimed at discussing at length the various initiatives related to this theme. Adhering to its legacy, the SCIT ISR team continues to be the agent of change. Our team and volunteers actively show their care for the society by participating in various events like visiting orphanages and other NGO’s and helping out needy in all possible ways. These small selfless acts on their part are a necessary reminder that we care and we do not hold back when it comes to doing our bit for the society.

Sustainable Development Goals are the blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all. They address the global challenges we face, including those related to poverty, inequality, climate change, environmental degradation, peace and justice. The 17 Goals are all interconnected, and in order to leave no one behind, it is important that we achieve them all by 2030. Our theme emphasized the following Sustainability Development Goals (SDG):

  • Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production
  • Goal 13: Climate Action
  • Goal 14: Life Below Water
  • Goal 15: Life on Land

NGO`s

Keynote Speaker - Mrs. Aditi Samudra Pais, Vice President- Business Development for Briota Technologies Pvt Ltd.

She is an Instrumentation engineer, with Business Management Diploma, certified ISO 9001 auditor, Experienced Engineering inspection services. She is currently working as a Vice President- Business Development for Briota Technologies Pvt Ltd. She is associated with NGOs like Robinhood Army, Humjoli foundation, Netra, Vasundhra Swacchata Abhiyaan, teacher with Robinhood Academy. She is actively involved with social reformation platforms which includes educating adolescent age girls and women in economical poor background about menstrual hygiene, food and education drives with RHA, writer for blind.

Mrs. Aditi Samudra Pais as an associate of Robinhood Army, spoke about the current situation of India where millions of children sleep empty stomach at night and discussed about their volunteer based organization which works to serve the hungry citizens and how the distribution of surplus food can help people lead better lives. She explains the triad which Robinhood Army follows: NO Funds, NO Political Connection and NO Religion and how RHA organization with no funds and no office have made an entry as a case study in Harvard Business School.

Speaker - Mr. Sagar Singh, Climate Change Activist and Social Science Educator

He has been teaching both privileged and underprivileged students in school section and training them on environment and sustainability. He founded community Ecowarriors India to educate youth and involve them by initiating beach clean-up program in March 2019 to educate society and make them aware about effects of single use plastic. His achievements involve making of 73 thousand seed balls on 73rd Independence Day (completed in span of 3 month), raised funds for Kolhapur flood relief worth 32 thousand in 4 days and later went there to distribute food grains in affected areas. His upcoming projects are 4000 tree plantations across Mumbai (exactly double, the number of trees cut at Aarey).

He shed light on how climate change and global warming are affecting food production, water availability and the ecosystem at large and called for the adoption of ecofriendly practices. He showed us videos on how oceans are getting polluted due to which the entire ecosystem is getting affected. Every minute around 1 ton of plastic is being dumped into the ocean. Check out the Great Pacific Garbage! He focused on the issues of oceans, rivers and groundwater getting polluted and suggested to reduce, reuse, recycle and refuse plastic.

ROBIN HOOD ARMY

The Robin Hood Army is a volunteer based, zero-funds organization that works to get surplus food from restaurants and the community to serve less fortunate people. "Robins" are largely students and young working professionals who contribute in their free time. Robinhood Army follows: NO Funds, NO Political Connection and NO Religion and how RHA organization with no funds and no office have made an entry as a case study in Harvard Business School. So far they have served 29.9 million people across 180 cities in 12 countries and still believe that only 1% is done. Visit their official webiste for more details.

KHUSHIYAAN FOUNDATION

Khushiyaan, as the name suggests 'Happiness" is committed to delivering Happiness to underprivileged humans of the society & environment. Khushiyaan Foundation is officially registered under the Mumbai Public Trust Act, 1950 & Societies Registration Act, 1860. Khushiyaan Foundation is formed by young team under the leadership of our guest speaker Mr.Chinu Kwatra. Khushiyaan Foundation is a Non Governmental Organization based in Thane, successfully running projects like Roti Ghar, Beach Warriors, Naari Shakti, Project Pathshala. Khushiyaan is a platform for selfless service for uplifting the helpless and needy. Also, the mission of Khushiyaan is to empower generations beyond the boundaries of caste, creed, communities, cultures, colours, religion and deliver stability, hope and well-being. Eco Warriors is a community founded by our guest speaker Mr. Sagar Singh who is a Climate Change Activist and Social Science Educator. Nisarga Raja Mitra Jeevanche, a non-profit organisation and social group based in Pimpri-Chinchwad founded by our guest speaker Mr. Rahul Gholap. The idea of ​​conserving nature came to his mind with the intention of doing something for the society. He took an oath of nature conservation at Raigad and started collecting seeds from the trees and making seedlings. From there, Nisargaraja Mitra Jiva was born. This organization has been working for nature and environmental conservation for the last decade. They have been implementing various initiatives for the past ten years.

Mr. Chinu Kwatra
Mr. Chinu Kwatra is a young philanthropist and humanitarian is only 29-year-old and holds dual MBA in Finance & Marketing . With his big mission and clear vision, he laid foundation of his own Non-profit organisation by the name Khushiyaan Foundation. He believes his strong team of youngsters with creative minds and energy at its best are the most important pillars who have contributed in making his dream a reality. His most successful projects are Roti Ghar, Beach Warriors, MARD and Project pathshala which are creating noticeable impact and measurable outcomes in the society daily.


Mr. Manoj Joshi
Mr. Manoj Joshi Sr. Executive Health Safety Environment at Tata Consultancy Services, Pune. He has some strong opinions about how corporates and IT companies are directly or indirectly impacting the climate change that is happening. TCS works with variety of clients like banking sectors, manufacturing sectors to deliver IT based solutions to those clients in order to reduce the carbon footprint, reduce their logistic and production cost which in turn reduces the impact on the environment. mKrishi, a TCS product which gives IoT based solution to farmers which helps them decide the efficient ways of farming.
